NSF STEM grant
Lead Researcher
Through a National Science Foundation (NSF) funded grant, I am engaged in a 5-year study examining several high-impact practices that Adams State's STEM department has adopted.
The goal is to narrow equity gaps for underrepresented students in STEM through implementing classroom undergraduate research experiences (CURE’s), placed-based learning, peer mentoring, and culturally relevant teaching practices.

Movement for the Mind
Co-Principal Investigator
With the goal of promoting mental and physical health for local youth, the kinesiology and psychology departments have partnered to offer free movement activities for children and adolescents in the San Luis Valley.
Last year, we found that participants had significant improvements in self-esteem, vigor, and less anger and anxiety after the movement sessions.

Build resilience for students
Lead Researcher
Our program for middle school and high school students fosters resilience, grit, and leadership skills that are foundational for optimal functioning and well-being in youth. We have developed a 4-step process drawing on evidence that resilience can be enhanced through interventions.
We provide educators with lessons that can be customized for specific needs, and we are available for consulting and speaking events.
