Food & Wellness

Mind. Body. Spirit.

Lifestyle habits have a profound impact on both physical and mental health. Healthy eating and movement are essential to my well-being, and while wellness includes many dimensions—spirituality among them, and my faith remains foundational—this page focuses on how mindful, brain-healthy eating shape my personal life and my approach to teaching.

Food is Medicine

Preparing and eating food for optimal physical and mental health is a great joy of mine. I am passionate about educating students about the impact of dietary habits in my psychology classes, such as child development, cognitive psychology, and adult Development classes. I also teach a two-day workshop, “Brian Food: Eating for Cognitive Power.” The science clearly shows that we literally are what we eat; food impacts our brain (including the volume and density of grey matter), mood, cognitive functioning, energy, and physical health even at a cellular level. Though a wellness routine includes much more than good nutrition, this page highlights food. Scroll down for a slideshow of my meals.
